SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Advanced grocery delivery options have taken the sector by storm in the past year, and some retailers are keeping their foot on the gas as they pursue further growth in the space. Albertsons is among those fortifying their position in the retail market, as it has teamed up with DoorDash to offer on-demand grocery delivery from nearly 2,000 of its locations across the U.S., including Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, and more.

Chris Rupp, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer and Digital Officer, Albertsons"We are committed to expanding our delivery experience in order to meet our customers' needs whenever, wherever, and however they want," said Chris Rupp, Chief Customer and Digital Officer, Albertsons. "Our partnership with DoorDash is the next step in our digital transformation to help make our customers' lives easier and help answer the perennial question, 'What's for dinner tonight?'"

The new partnership allows shoppers to order from a selection of over 40,000 grocery items and other essentials on-demand for delivery within an hour, with no time slot, queues, or minimum order size requirements, according to a press release. Utilizing the DoorDash marketplace, consumers can get access to fresh, high-quality, local produce in just a short time from the comfort of their own homes. In select markets, shoppers can also order groceries through their local Albertsons Companies store’s website for same-day delivery via DoorDash’s white-label fulfillment platform, DoorDash Drive.

Fuad Hannon, Head of New Verticals, DoorDash"Consumers' desire to get everything in their neighborhood on-demand has increased dramatically," said Fuad Hannon, Head of New Verticals at DoorDash. "We are thrilled to partner with Albertsons, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the world, as they expand their already strong local footprint beyond their four walls to offer consumers convenient access to on-demand grocery delivery. Leveraging our extensive logistics network and Albertsons' wide selection of fresh groceries, we are creating a one-stop shop for customers to access any of the essentials they need, delivered to their doorstep within an hour."

The new alliance includes several short- and long-term initiatives, including the expansion of Albertsons’ first-party grocery delivery service with DoorDash Drive, the launch of a custom loyalty program, the extension of delivery hours, and the increase of specialty items, prepared meals, meal kits, and other unique innovations.

Albertsons has teamed up with DoorDash to offer on-demand grocery delivery from nearly 2,000 of its locations across the U.S.

In addition, the team has launched a first-ever gaming experience, which gives shoppers the chance to win savings on future grocery orders by playing an interactive video game that prompts users to put as many fresh grocery staples—such as apples, asparagus, and avocados—as possible into a virtual grocery bag before running out of space.
