"We've been on a great run lately," Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi U.S told the Chicago Tribune. "We've really been making an effort to appeal to a broader base of customers across the country."

For the first wave of new hirings, Aldi will be attempting to fill more than 2,500 jobs in new markets in its goal to open 130 new locations a year. In Chicago, Aldi plans to hire 400 at wages starting at $11.75 an hour in the suburbs, to $13 in the city. These wages top Chicago’s current minimum wage for $10 an hour.

Aldi is expecting to open many new and remodeled stores by the end of the year, according to the Chicago Tribune. The metro area currently has 150 existing stores, with Aldi having already opened five stores and remodeled five others locally since the company announced its growth strategy in 2013.

The last 500 stores Aldi has opened have been in primarily middle- and upper-income areas and are high performing, Hart continued. Aldi currently services more than 30 million customers a month and expects to reach more than 45 million following the implementation of its expansion plans.
