SEATTLE, WA – As Amazon looks to make even further strides into the realms of fresh groceries and a secured stature in e-commerce, the company is adding to distribution capabilities with a new warehouse and distribution center in Irvine, CA.

The company is repurposing and leasing at least 187,817-square-feet from a large building in Irvine, according to The OC Register. Amazon will work with the city to reconfigure the space, which makes up half of the actual building.

The space, leased from Von Karman Income Partners Holding Co., is smaller than Amazon’s typical fulfillment centers. The OC Register noted that the surrounding areas of the fulfillment center were among the first to receive enhanced delivery services, which includes Amazon’s flourishing focus on fresh groceries. This could mean a further emphasis on grocery for the region.

As we previously reported, Amazon has been focusing further on the potential of groceries and fresh as the e-commerce giant recently unveiled plans to expand its services with convenient-style stores.

In similar moves, Amazon has also taken hold of another distribution center in Charlotte, NC, that boasts nearly 400,000-square-feet of merchandise space, according to WSOCTV.com. This location will be a prime focus for Amazon’s Prime Air service, as the company looks to convert Boeing 767s to ship its deliveries across the country.
