BrightFarms is partnering with Mariano’s, Roundy’s growth banner, to deliver year-round local produce to the grocer’s Chicagoland stores via a state-of-the-art hydroponic greenhouse. The greenhouse will be financed, built, and operated by BrightFarms, who is currently evaluating a number of potential greenhouse sites in Chicago.
BrightFarms CEO Paul Lightfoot says he looks forward to the partnership with Mariano’s. “The Mariano’s experience is unique and we’re honored that we will be able to contribute to their already extraordinary selection of produce offerings,” said Lightfoot.
Donald G. Fitzgerald, Group Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer of Roundy’s, says that the partnership with Brightfarms will continue to expand the company’s offerings of “locally grown.”
The greenhouse will also help create permanent green collar jobs, reduce transportation of produce items usually shipped across the country, and help improve the environmental impact of the food supply chain, according to a press release.
Congrats on this successful partnership with Mariano’s, BrightFarms!
