NEW YORK - Calling New York its home base for more than 73 years, D’Arrigo New York is continuing to widen its reach in the market, this time announcing the expansion of its operations in the South Bronx. Recently, the produce purveyor revealed that it has finalized the acquisition of a facility close to its headquarters, nearly doubling its capacity.
“From an operations standpoint, we are always looking to make our warehouse run more efficiently,” said Kevin D’Arrigo, Vice President of Operations, in a statement. “This new facility should help provide extra flexibility and alleviate inventory surpluses. Our customers will enjoy a more streamlined operation at our market facility, and our shippers will benefit from the additional cold storage capacity.”
The new facility stands at 1303 Randall Avenue in the South Bronx, less than a mile from D’Arrigo’s headquarters located inside the Hunts Point Market. According to an email from the company, the new building is even closer to its retail distribution and banana facility.
Encompassing more than 18,000 square feet, the building will feature 10 state-of-the-art banana ripening rooms, which will nearly double the company’s capacity and expand its refrigerated warehouse capacity by 35 loads.
The newly acquired facility will also align with D’Arrigo’s sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives.
“One of our goals as we expand our operation is to be as eco-conscious as possible,” continued D’Arrigo. “The new refrigeration system will have three temperature zones and will utilize custom designed controls to maximize energy efficiency. This will save 30 percent of the energy usage compared to older systems without sacrificing any integrity to the cold chain.”
As D’Arrigo New York continues to extend its reach in its home market, what will be the next move from the fresh produce maven? Only time and AndNowUKnow can tell, so keep reading.
