<p> There’s a new grocery market in town and its name isn’t Publix, Walmart, or Target. Dollar General, a Tennessee-based discount retailer, is stepping into the ring to offer low prices on fresh goods and produce. According to the Tampa Tribune, the company has been quietly entering into the grocery sphere, building prototype full-sized grocery stores in 100 locations around the country. Now, they seem to be poised to start competing against some of the most competitive grocery markets nationwide.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Incidentally, Dollar General’s grocery stores are just barely beating out Walmart on price alone for the second year in a row, beating Family Dollar by 7%, Stop & Shop by 19%, Aldi by 32%, and Target by 48%, according to market research firm Kantar Retail.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The Dollar General Market isn’t your average discount retail store either. CBS News reports that the stores look better with neatly organized shelves, bright colors, and polished concrete floors. With other discount stores like 99 Cents Only beginning to expand into full grocery, it’s no surprise that Dollar General is serious about its efforts.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Financially, the company has been stable, according to the Tampa Tribune. The stock rose 6% on December 6 after the company posted better-than-expected profits.
