SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Texas-based grocer, H-E-B, has been making large investments in new facilities throughout the state. With innovative tech hubs slated to open in Austin and San Antonio, the retailer continues to press the gas on further growth, announcing progress on two construction projects in West Houston totaling $16 million. The projects include a distribution site expansion and a store renovation.
According to Houston Business Journal, the retailer recently received building permits for the projects. The first, an addition to its 4625 Windfern Road distribution center in Houston, estimated to cost $12.5 million. The permit allows the construction of a 99,831-square-foot, hi-pile warehouse addition and/or remodel, the news source reported. This project comes on the heels of another soon-to-be-completed facility just a half a mile away at 10000 1/2 Genard Rd. This other facility is a snack manufacturing plant, and will be the retailer’s second in Texas.
The second permit is for a remodel and HVAC upgrade to the retailer’s 11815 Westheimer Rd. store in the Memorial neighborhood in Houston—a project estimated to cost $3.5 million. H-E-B has reportedly been searching for a new location to build a larger store in the Memorial neighborhood, but in the meantime, the retailer has set plans in motion to renovate the area’s existing store.
