Central Market, opened by H-E-B in Austin in 1994, is preparing for further growth with their popularly dubbed "amusement park for food lovers." The company, who is a division of the privately owned H-E-B, is preparing to open a 30,000-square-foot store, half the size of their usual locations. The new addition is projected to open in early 2012 in a Dallas neighborhood, near the Southern Methodist University. According to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Central Market executives are prepping for the opening by taking a tip or two from New York and their urban market culture which makes an efficient use of a small space, look easy. The European-style fresh market concept, was a huge hit from the beginning, providing more exotic products that have a wider range of origins and flavor.
