SUN PRAIRIE, WI - Hy-Vee has been thinking outside the box in terms of expansion efforts lately. Although, as of this week, it may be more apt to say that the retailer is thinking inside the box, as it is leveraging a smaller store format to extend its banner footprint in the Wisconsin market. The company recently proposed the construction of a new full-service location in addition to a Fast & Fresh convenience store as Hy-Vee looks to continue its banner expansion.
According to local news source Sun Prairie Star, city planners are expected to meet early next week in regards to Hy-Vee’s request. If accepted, the Hy-Vee store will stand at 92,200 square feet, and the Fast & Fresh store will stand at 6,700 square feet.
While we are unsure of when the plans will be finalized, the news source noted that city officials are attracted to this small-format convenience store. Hy-Vee’s unique c-store format came to fruition back in 2018 and was one of the first of its kind.
Does this expansion mean that Hy-Vee is leaning into its small-store format? Keep reading AndNowUKnow as we report.
