Hy-Vee: Halftime Heroes

Tue. January 3rd, 2012

West Des Moines, Iowa - The Hawkeyes and the Cornhuskers weren't the only ones participating in the inaugural Heroes Game presented by Hy-Vee. This past week honored the "citizen heroes" Gary Launderville of Storm Lake, Iowa and Kathy Griess of Fremont, Neb., as part of the celebration. The individuals were selected by Red Cross staff and volunteers from a field of at least 200 nominations. Besides the pre-game activities, halftime honors, and a Heroes Game trophy inscribed with their names, each of these recipients have an amazing story to tell. Mr. Launderville was chosen for his concern for children and for putting the safety of others in the community ahead of his own. Ms. Griess was chosen as the hero from the state of Nebraska for saving the lives of two children, ages three and one, that she pulled from a fire in a mobile home park. Representatives from Hy-Vee presented the check to the American Red Cross to demonstrate its support for the heroes beingrecognized and the work of the American Red Cross in Iowa and Nebraska.

www.hy-vee.com
