<p> The last of the remaining vacant Dominick’s stores in Chicago are being swept up by independent grocers in the area. Grocery chains like Garden Fresh Market, Pete’s Fresh Market, Cermak Fresh Market, and various grocers affiliated with the Centrella cooperative are in negotiations to purchase one or more Dominick’s locations.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Garden Fresh Market is opening a new store at the site of a former Dominick’s in Buffalo Grove within the first weeks of March. Golan Mor, General Manager, says the decision was based off the need to expand into a larger, remodeled location while staying in close proximity with its long established customers, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> When family-owned Pete’s Fresh Market opens in the former Dominick’s in Oak Park later this year, executives from the company say they will focus on its expertise in produce. The building will be completely renovated with top-quality re-designed counters, tiles, signage, and carefully selected coloring, according to Oak Park Sun-Times. Stephanie Dremonas, the store’s executive, declined to say how much the company will spend on the purchase or renovation of the Dominick’s building.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Cermak Fresh Market has purchased one empty Dominick’s store at Damen and Ridge avenues in the West Rogers Park neighborhood of the city. The market will cover 50,000 square feet, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. The company currently has six stores in the city.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Centrella grocers are looking to open stores in as many as 10 closing Dominick’s stores. These grocers include Tony’s Finer Foods, Treasure Island, and Strack &amp; Van Til, among others. The group hired food industry investment banker David Schoeder to negotiate the package deal with Dominick’s parent company, Safeway.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> As the last of these Dominick’s locations evolve into new stores, the retail competitive scene will heat up even more. Whole Foods is looking to capture former Dominick’s shoppers and is offering them $15 off a $50 purchase. Jewel-Osco is following suit, offering 10% off any food or merchandise purchase in exchange for a Dominick’s loyalty card, according to Fox News Chicago.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Stay tuned to AndNowUKnow as we report on any future purchases of any remaining Dominick’s locations. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/01/prweb11518437.htm" target="_new"> Garden Fresh Market</a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://oakpark.suntimes.com/news/business/petes-OAK-01302014:article" target="_new"> Oak Park Sun-Times </a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20140110/NEWS07/140119973/indie-grocery-chain-buys-west-rogers-park-dominicks#" target="_new"> Crain’s Chicago Business </a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20131218/NEWS07/131219751/independent-grocers-negotiating-to-buy-10-dominicks" target="_new"> Centrella Grocers </a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://www.myfoxchicago.com/story/24337427/whole-foods-targets-dominicks-shoppers" target="_new"> Fox News Chicago</a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
