Meijer Distribution Inc. Investing 146 Million Dollars in Wisconsin

<p>With recent rapid expansion plans in the works for Meijer, the retailer is continuing to establish its Wisconsin footprint with a $146 million investment in the state. The company will purchase and remodel an existing facility in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, for a new Meijer distribution center, according to RE Journals. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>The distribution center is expected to serve stores in states that include Wisconsin and Illinois. The retailer has plans to open locations in Grafton, Oak Creek, Kenosha, Wauwatosa, Sussex and Waukesha in Wisconsin over the next two years. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>“This is great news for Kenosha County, which has proven that it is a very attractive area for job creators looking to grow and expand here in Wisconsin,” said Governor Scott Walker.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>When the 770,000-square-foot facility is completed, its is expected to employ 271 full-time workers and 42 part-time employees. Meijer Distribution Inc., is also eligible for up to $5.25 million in tax credits from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation over the next eight years. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>What could Meijer’s rapid expansion mean for Midwest retailers?
