WOODLAND, CA – Nugget Markets, one of Northern California’s premier natural and organic grocers, is getting even bigger.

On Thursday, the family-owned retailer announced that it is in the process of acquiring two Sonoma County grocery stores, Sonoma Market and Glen Ellen Village Market, for an undisclosed amount. The transaction is expected to close March 31, 2016.

Nugget Markets

Nugget Markets is no stranger to acquiring new stores. The company purchased three stores from the specialty grocer Paradise Foods in January 2015.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to acquire Sonoma and Glen Ellen Village Markets,” Eric Stille, President and CEO of Nugget Markets, said in a press release. “Co-owners Don Shone and Dale Downing, and their entire team have built a fabulous brand. Our Core Values align nicely and I see both brands growing stronger with this acquisition!”

Family-owned and operated, Sonoma and Glen Ellen Village Markets were recently recognized by the Sonoma Index Tribune’s People’s Awards for “Best Grocery Store” and “Best Customer Service.”

Nugget Markets has also been recognized by FORTUNE Magazine. The company was listed on the publication’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for 10 consecutive years, according to a press release.

“A big factor in deciding to sell to the Nugget Markets and the Stille family is their dedication and commitment to their employees and customers,” said Shone. “Though we have been sought after by many companies over the years, only now do we feel we have the perfect fit for our market family. Dale and I can rest assured that our employees, who have helped build this company and are loved by the community, will be well taken care of.”

If Nugget Markets’ Grecian-style statues and elegantly decorated exterior wasn’t enough to sell you on this high-brow grocery chain, just wait until you see the inside. As we previously reported, fresh produce clearly gets the star treatment at Nugget Markets with large displays and an artistically designed wet rack.
