MONTEREY, CA - ‘Tis the season to give back to our communities, and national produce distributor PRO*ACT is really getting into the holiday spirit. After announcing raising the funds for its local farm grant program, Cultivating Change, to $75,000, the company is seeking to assist in sustainability efforts being made by the supply chain from seed to fork.
“The Cultivating Change grants make it possible for local farmers to fund projects which invest in their current and future operations. The improvements pave a sustainable path for the next generation of farmers. We are proud to give back to farms that make such a large contribution to their local community,” said Max Yeater, PRO*ACT President and CEO in a recent press release.
Who can benefit from the larger grant allotment? Farmers nationwide can potentially claim the company's funding, but they will have to submit an application before December 15, 2017. There is a quick turn-around for applicants, as panel review begins January 1st - 31st of 2018, and winners will be announced February 5th of 2018.
By the end of this year’s grant gifting season, the company will have given $200,000 to over 20 local farms located all over the country, which has allowed farmers to achieve higher levels of sustainability. The Cultivating Change grant program was created in 2015 by the company’s Greener Fields Together, a sustainability-focused program.
“With the grant, we were able to alleviate 4,000 gallons a day of water that we were pulling from the city and our community,” said Scott Rickstrew, General Manager for Leaf Safari, a Manor, Texas-based recipient of a $10,000 grant.
