Lakeland, FL

Publix Super Markets, the United Fresh Foundation and Produce for Kids, teamed up to raise funds that will allow the donation of 39 salad bars to schools in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee through the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative. This is the largest single produce industry contribution to date for the cause. With the help of Publix and United Fresh, Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools will benefit more than 20,000 students. Produce for Kids Founder and President, John Shuman, and Vice President Kim Avola made the announcement at the Southeast Produce Council’s Show, Southern Exposure 2012 in Tampa on March 2. “Foods that are colorful and fresh are tempting to the eyes and the taste buds,” said Maria Brous, Publix Director of Media & Community Relations. “When children are exposed to fruits and vegetables from a salad bar they are more likely to eat and enjoy them. Our goal is to help develop a love for these foods at school, that can then be shared with families at home.”

http://www.publix.com/
