<p>Safeway has reached a definitive agreement to sell 11 of its Dominick's stores in the Chicago metropolitan area to Roundy's, Inc in a cash and lease assumption transaction. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><img class="small-cropped-image" src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacySmallCroppedImages/robM.jpg" alt="Cropped images December 01st 2013" width="120" />With former Dominick's employees now in Roundy's executive ranks including Robert Mariano, CEO and President of Roundy's; Steve Jarzombek, VP of Produce and Donald Rosanova, Executive Vice President of Operations, this begs the question... could Roundy's have gotten the pick of the litter? </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><img class="small-cropped-image" src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacySmallCroppedImages/donRosanova.jpg" alt="Cropped images December 01st 2013" width="120" style="float:right" />Roundy's will acquire the locations during a transition period that will take place over the next two months, according to a press release. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Safeway revealed earlier this year that it had made the decision to exit <img class="small-cropped-image" src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacySmallCroppedImages/steveJ.jpg" alt="Cropped images December 01st 2013" width="120" /> the Chicago market and focus its efforts in other operating areas where its business is stronger. Safeway continues to be actively engaged in a process to identify purchasers for its remaining stores in the Chicago market.
