Safeway Raises Funds for Prostate Cancer Awareness

<p><strong>Pleasanton, CA</strong><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Safeway has announced that its month-long Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign raised over $9 million to find new treatments and a cure for prostate cancer. This is the 12th year that Safeway has dedicated the month of June to raise funds at its stores for prostate cancer research.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Larree Renda, Safeway Executive VP and Chair of the Safeway Foundation, states, “We are infinitely grateful for all of the customer and community support for a campaign that will help save the lives of countless men worldwide. Prostate cancer is the number one cancer killer of men. These contributions, one dollar at a time, are sparing lives by funding critical research and the absolute best treatment at the most renowned cancer centers in North America.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Safeway works with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to identify grants for upcoming research, resulting in the identification of over 27 cancer-causing gene fusions and new markers for diagnosis, along with the development of effective new medical treatments, according to a press release.
