Shaw's to Close Six Northeastern Stores

<p>Shaw’s has confirmed it will close six stores in Massachusetts and Rhode Island by Aug. 3.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">“While the decision to close a store is always difficult — given the impact on associates and customers — it was made only after careful evaluation and was guided by what is best for the company’s ongoing success and future growth,” Shaw’s spokesman Steve Sylven said in an email Monday night, as reported by the Milford Daily News.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">In January, parent company Supervalu sold the chain to an investor group, Cerberus Capital Management, which assumed more than $3 billion of the company’s debt.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Shaw’s began laying off 700 employees across its 169 New England stores in November 2012.
