South Florida Market Grocery Competition Heats Up

<p>South Florida is gearing up for a competitive 2014 with a promise of at least 14 new grocery sites between Broward and Palm Beach counties. Along with the excitement over the long-awaited arrival of Trader Joe's next year there are also several other stores looking for a share of the popular market.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">From low-priced Walmart Neighborhood Markets to The Fresh Market, consumers' food options are increasing as grocers strengthen their local footprint, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Four Trader Joe's in Palm Beach County are set to open in 2014 as well as one in Broward. California-based Trader Joe's has announced plans for stores in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington andPembroke Pines.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Aldi, owned by the same family that operates Trader Joe's, is also opening at least two stores next year in Broward and Palm. The company already has eight other stores in the region.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Texas-based organic grocer Whole Foods Market, with 20 stores in Florida, is also planning to open stores in Pompano Beach and in West Palm Beach next year. The company notes that it is capitalizing on a growing population that's interested in eating healthier and supporting local producers.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The Fresh Market will be expanding its footprint as well with upcoming locations in Plantation, Delray Beach and Jupiter.
