Stater Brothers diverts millions pounds of waste to composting

Stater Bros was recognized as a Waste Reduction Awards Program Winner for its efforts in environmental sustainability this year. On Earth day of 2009, State Bros. introduced a “Green Waste” Composting Program into every one of its 167 Supermarket locations. The program was designed to convert organic waste into farming compost. In total, Stater Bros. diverted 140 million pounds of waste from the landfill in 2009 and has also made notable efforts in food donations and recycling. The retail company has also created an employee Green Team, which researches and executes environmentally conscious business practices that benefit the community as a whole. Jack Brown, Chairman and CEO of Stater Bros. Supermarkets, stated "Stater Bros. believes in doing the right thing for the right reason. Protecting our environment is the 'right thing' and the 'right reason' is so future generations can live in a better world."<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
