Target: Expanding Canadian Stores

Tue. November 22nd, 2011

Target will be opening 150 new stores across the country, and has just announced that some of those stores will include a fresh food department. Although the new stores will be slightly smaller than their American counterparts- 100,000 square feet as opposed to 135,000, they are still expected to present stiff competition to the Canadian market. Tony Fisher, President of Target Canada, stated “Food, as it is in the U.S., will be a critical part of our assortment.” Though he was quick to add “The breadth of our food assortment will vary by market … We’re not a grocer. We don’t try to be a grocer.” Official grocer or not, the new fresh food targets are bound to be popular.
