United Supermarkets Acquires Llano Logistics to Brings Distribution Operations In-House

<p>United Supermarkets, LLC, recently completed a transaction to acquire Llano Logistics, Inc., the company responsible for running United’s two distribution centers. The Lubbock and Roanoke centers, along with the 300 employees who operate these centers, are now a part of the United Supermarkets team.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/united060413body.jpg" alt="IMAGES - JUNE 3 2013" /><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Previously owned by Exel, Inc., a subsidiary of Deutsche Post DHL, Llano is now United’s third subsidiary operation in addition to its 52-store supermarket and convenience store chain. R.C. Taylor Distributing was purchased by United in 2007 and Praters Foods joined the mix in 2009.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">“Llano will maintain a separate corporate structure, but this transaction allows us to closely align with and support the Llano team now and in the future,” St. Clair said.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The previous General Manager for Llano, Scott Mullins, will become Vice President of Llano Logistics and will continue to oversee the Llano team. Mike Lemons will serve as General Manager of the 200,000-square-foot Alliance Distribution Center in Roanoke, while Carlos Mendoza will serve as General Manager of the 500,000-square-foot Lubbock distribution center.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">“This move provides additional synergy for our organization,” St. Clair explained. “There are significant cost savings and significant operational efficiencies that we gain through this acquisition.
