US Foods is announcing that approximately 85 percent of its Metro New York Division’s yearly energy will be derived from solar power by July of 2012. In Perth-Amboy, New Jersey, the installation process is already underway, with the addition of rooftop solar panels at the US Foods warehouse. This is the fourth installation at one of the company's distribution facilities. Upon completion, the solar installation will generate over 10 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, equivalent to powering more than 870 average U.S. homes for a year. Swan Creek MPA, LLC has been contracted to supply the panels and energy to US Foods. Chuck Gannon, Metro New York Division President for US Foods, states, “The new solar project will reduce annual energy costs at the Metro New York division by 20 percent." He continues, "The solar panels will help us operate more efficiently, and significantly reduce our carbon emissions while maintaining the great service our customers expect.”

www.usfoods.com
