PHOENIX, AZ - There’s nothing like a little bit of friendly competition to get the people excited. That is exactly what Walmart and salsa brand Fresh Cravings®, are doing as the companies announced that they will be partnering to host a recipe competition amongst Walmart employees. Walmart’s My Local Social will honor three associates in a fall-inspired #AssociateCookoffContest. The competition launched September 4 and invites over two million Walmart workers to show off their cooking skills to impress a panel of celebrity judges.
"During this incredibly difficult time for our nation, we are enormously inspired by the front-line efforts of Walmart associates—we should consider all grocery associates as essential workers," said FoodStory Brands President Jay Whitney. "Our goal with this partnership is to honor their contributions during these highly uncertain times and celebrate culinary talent. As a brand sold in the produce department, we believe highlighting the accessibility of Walmart's healthy and fresh ingredients is a welcome message to many, many consumers at this time, as they turn to home cooking solutions."
The associates who enter the competition will present their recipes via their local store’s Facebook page, where they will then be judged by prominent celebrity chefs and foodies including: Chef Chloe Coscarelli, Chef Tiffany Derry, Chef Peter Sherman, and Registered Dietitian Mia Syn. The judges will select three winning recipes and announce them in October.
Lucky winners of the #AssociateCookoffContest will be awarded a new set of premium kitchen gear and exclusive virtual cooking experiences that will be led by the celebrity panel of judges. Each experience will provide an inside look into the expertise of each judge, and a sneak peek into the culinary world.
The presentations that will be shared will include:
- Plant-Based Chef Chloe Coscarelli breaking down vegan and vegetarian cooking techniques
- Texas-based Restauranteur and Top Chef alum Chef Tiffany Derry focusing on regional Southern cuisine
- The Bacon Bible Co-Author and New York City-based Restauranteur, Chef Peter Sherman leading a grilling-focused class
- Registered Dietitian Mia Syn rounding out the experiences with a nutritional focus on fresh, healthy ingredients
