DENTON, TX - WinCo Foods’ distribution power is about to get a lot bigger, according to new reports. The company has told the Denton Record-Chronicle it will be opening an 800,000 square-foot distribution center in Denton, TX by early 2017.

“It will be a full-service grocery distribution facility, so it will receive from our supplies and vendors for frozen goods, meats, fish, produce, canned goods,” explained Michael Read, Vice President of Public and Legal Affairs at WinCo.

According to the news source, this project has been in development for most of this year, and has been referred to as “Project Ranger One.” The new facility will be located at 300 S. Western Boulevard in Denton, TX.

Denton’s City Council voted to approve tax incentives for the company in June, following the city’s Director of Development Services, Aimee Bissett, telling the council that WinCo would make a $130 million capital investment and create an estimated 165 jobs.

“In terms of capital investment, this is the largest economic development project the city of Denton has ever seen in terms of square footage,” Bissett confirmed, according to the source.

The facility will be a regional distribution center for the chain, the Denton Record-Chronicle says, which recently opened six stores in the Denton area with two more in development. Construction on both a warehouse and a 60,000 truck maintenance center is about to begin, with crews are currently working on off-site work.
