GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Meijer team members and their children can enjoy the perks of being a part of the Meijer family again this year. Through the Fred and Lena Meijer Scholarship, a competitive scholarship administered by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, they will have a chance to receive up to $10,000 to further their college educations this year. The private scholarship fund was established at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation in 1975. Originally for the children of Meijer team members, the scholarship program was expanded to include Meijer team members in 2010, with awards being increased from $500 to $1,000 awards.

The Meijer family showed its support by funding the scholarship in 2011 with a considerable donation to the Community Foundation. This year, the Meijer family increased the scholarships to $2,500 and added two $10,000 scholarships, one in Fred Meijer's and one in Lena Meijer’s name. "We are honored that Meijer has entrusted Grand Rapids Community Foundation with the responsibility to manage and administer this enhanced scholarship fund,” said Diana Sieger, Foundation President. “It speaks volumes about the Meijer family that this fund is being grown to meet the needs of today’s college student. Meijer is certainly showing its dedication to education and its employees.”

www.meijer.com
