Hannaford: A New Shape For Shopping Carts

Thu. October 6th, 2011

Hannaford Supermarkets is showing off its slim new figure with a deeper more narrow shopping cart. The prototype may prove to make the shopping experience more enjoyable, allowing the customer to glide and navigate with ease. Though the basket capacity is only a slight trim from its previous, it does prove to have some customers questioning the new take on the traditional cart.

A discussion was spurred by a Facebook comment on the struggles involved with the new cart and its insufficient size. “I shop for a family of 5 and have always been able to fit my order in a single cart. Struggled to fit everything in today and then needed 2 carts to take the order to my car,” a shopper stated. Hannaford's response to the reaction on Facebook was "...the new carts are our prototype after surveying customers and testing them in a few stores. The basket capacity is 9,000 cubic inches - the older style was 9,100. Mostly, the difference is that the baskets are deeper, rather than wider. We hope you give them another chance!"

www.hannaford.com
