BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO – A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit just off the interior Gulf of California last Friday, shaking cities throughout Baja California, neighboring Sinaloa, and as far as Hermosillo, Sonora.
The epicenter occurred approximately 77 km (48 miles) off the coast of Loreto, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake occurred at a depth of roughly six miles below the ocean, and though the magnitude was of severe intensity, ABC News reports that there have been no reports of injury or severe damage.
No tsunami warnings had been levied as of Friday at 4:00 pm PST.
Last September, powerful earthquakes ravaged much of Mexico, as a series of high-magnitude earthquakes hit first the east and then the west coast of the country. An 8.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southern Mexico on September 7th, 2017, and was felt by nearly 50 million people—leaving 200,00 without power. And less than two weeks later a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Pacific coast outside Raboso resulting in a state of national emergency.
