FLORIDA - Lucky’s Market has officially filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, according to a report by Bloomberg Law, only a week after the newswire caught wind of its departure from the Florida market. As part of this filing, Aldi will purchase six of Lucky’s shuttered Florida stores, according to a report by Tampa Bay Times.
The news source notes that Aldi will most likely be adding the Lucky’s properties in Gainesville, Neptune Beach, Naples, Clermont, Orlando, and Ormond Beach to its brick-and-mortar footprint. Over the years, Aldi has been working to expand in the States, with Florida being a key market for growth. With the addition of these six storefronts, Aldi is only furthering its efforts.
Thus far, Aldi is the only retailer amongst the purchasers to be disclosed. According to The Wall Street Journal, Lucky’s is in the process of transferring 26 store leasers to buyers. In its filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware, the organic grocer listed $600 million in liabilities.
