UNITED STATES & MEXICO - The avocado market is showing mixed conditions this week, as September’s tricky “shoulder period” brings higher volumes into play. According to the USDA’s September 9, 2025, National FOB Review, larger sizes from California and Mexico are trending lower, while South Florida Greenskin varieties are holding slightly higher under steady movement.
While consumer demand remains consistently high—especially with football season underway—trade activity reflects the weight of current inventories and available supply.
In the South District of California, reports note weaker pricing on select larger Hass sizes. Cartons (2-layer) are quoted at 42.25–50.25 for 32s, mostly 46.25–48.25. Larger 36s are 40.25–46.25, mostly 42.25–44.25, while 40s show softness at 32.25–40.25, mostly 37.25–40.25. Mid-range 48s are holding 35.25–40.25, mostly 35.25–37.25. Smaller sizes are steadier, with 60s at 31.25–34.25, mostly 32.25–34.25, and 84s at 23.25–28.25, mostly 26.25–28.25. Pressure is noted on 70s, priced 27.25–33.25, mostly 27.25–30.25.
In South Florida, Greenskin varieties are moving well, supporting slightly higher pricing. Donnie and other varieties are quoted at 38.00–40.00 for 16s and 18s, while 20s and 24s are priced 36.00–38.00, with a few trades reaching 40.00.
Crossings from Mexico through Texas are shaping the broader market dynamic as the country’s new season ramps up with significant volume. Hass cartons (2-layer) are reported at 48.25–51.25 for 32s, mostly 49.25–50.25, while 36s are lower at 38.25–46.25, mostly 42.25. Mid-sized 40s are 25.25–32.25, mostly 30.25–32.25, and 48s are quoted 23.25–28.25, mostly 24.25–26.25. Smaller 60s and 70s are also trending lower, at 22.25–28.25, mostly 22.25–24.25. Organic Hass is showing more resilience, with 48s at 42.25–46.25, mostly 44.25–46.25, while 60s and 70s range from 36.25–42.25, mostly 38.25–40.25.
As September progresses, Mexico’s supply is expected to take firmer control of the market. With Peru exiting and California nearly finished, industry expectations are for pricing to rise again once the current wave of volume eases.
