HOUSTON, TX - Back-to-school season is officially in full swing, and providing students and their families with access to nutritious, fresh produce is a key focus for Brighter Bites this season. The nonprofit organization recently announced it has officially launched its national back-to-school campaign, Brighter Minds Start with Brighter Bites, to achieve this ambitious mission.

Lisa Helfman, Founder, Brighter Bites“Despite the challenges of the past year and a half, we continue to commit ourselves to providing families with fresh food and nutrition education, knowing now that it is more important than ever,” said Founder Lisa Helfman. “Through our program, we are excited to engage with more people around the country to bring fresh food and nutritional resources to classrooms and families in the areas where we serve.”

The goal of the national campaign is to support students this coming school year by fostering a more equitable community to support a healthy mind, body, and environment. The campaign takes place now through the end of October, during which Brighter Bites is inviting the public to support children and their families during the back-to-school season through fundraising efforts that directly impact local communities.

According to a press release, the money raised during the Brighter Minds Start with Brighter Bites campaign will provide fresh fruits and vegetables and nutrition education to families across the country. Additionally, all gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

Rich Dachman, Chief Executive Officer, Brighter Bites“Any contribution, big or small, will go a long way in helping families across the nation gain access to fresh produce and nutrition resources,” said Rich Dachman, Chief Executive Officer. “And in addition to these funds, Brighter Bites will also continue to benefit from the produce industry’s expertise, logistical know-how, and fresh product. All are vital to keep our program growing.”

Brighter Bites depends on support from partners across the produce industry, as well as other organizations, to help ensure families have access to fresh produce. Currently, the organization works with over 120 schools in seven different cities and provides nearly 25 pounds of fresh, seasonal produce and nutrition education a week. Data shows that Brighter Bites families are actively engaged in the program and consume significantly more fresh produce than before.
