C&S Wholesale Grocers and The Conservation Fund are marking the company’s fifth consecutive contribution to the Fund’s Go Zero® program, by restoring native forests for wildlife and trapping carbon dioxide in trees, according to a recent press release. The donation will cultivate native trees to offset the annual CO2 emissions at five facilities. With the donation from C&S, the Fund will be able to plant more than 10,700 trees over 35 acres at Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana.
Go Zero sponsors such as C&S are hoping to return the Refuge to its natural floodplain in an effort to sustain the native wildlife. “There is no question that 35,700 trees is a lot of trees,” noted Gina Goff, Senior Director of Community Involvement at C&S Wholesale Grocers. “By partnering with The Conservation Fund and supporting Go Zero, we’re making a difference for the environment in a lasting and straightforward way. If other companies, especially those in the food industry, are inspired by our example, we would be especially proud,” she added.
