D'Arrigo Bros. has seen a relatively smooth Yuma season despite some small weather challenges throughout the region and additional desert growing areas. Quality and supply have been both strong and consistent.

Dave Martinez, Vice President of Sales, tells AndNowUKnow, "Until now, Mother Nature has been mostly cooperative with D'Arrigo, in fact the mild winter has caused most crops to slowly creep ahead of schedule by five to ten days. Thus, we anticipate cooler weather eventually playing a role in creating some minor supply gaps due to the warmer weather bringing product forward."

Labor continues to be challenging as ever, although this season the Yuma Valley has seemingly found an adequate amount of crews to harvest budgeted supplies, Dave notes.

The main items coming out of Yuma for D’Arrigo are Cauliflower, Lettuce, Leaf items (red, green, butter, jumbo butter), romaine hearts, and fennel. Other core items for the company are also being grown in Brawley, California (broccoli rabe and broccoli) and Gonzales, California (cactus pears and nopalitos) during the winter months.

“Basically all of our items make the transition down south with the exception of the cactus items and the artichokes,” Dave tells us.

Acreage for D’Arrigo has remained consistent due to the mild winter and is looking to stay that way as the company makes the transition back up north come spring.

D'Arrigo Bros.
