CHARLOTTE, NC - First there was Dole’s sponsorship of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland in 1976, which led to a similar arrangement at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World several years later.

After serving just DOLE® Pineapple juice and fresh-cut spears for its first season in the dual Adventurelands, Dole sweetened its pineapple legacy forever when it introduced a new kind of frozen pineapple treat called the Dole Whip® in 1984 – and the rest is Dole and Disney legend.

Forty-two years since that fateful introduction, Dole Packaged Foods continues the in-park sponsorship while Dole Food Company expands its fresh-ingredient Dole Whip® empire with the introduction of three new, all-natural, low-fat Dole Whip® recipes that bring the total number of Whips that can be easily whipped up at home to a most-ever 16.

Joining the classic DIY Dole Whip® that started it all, in addition to 12 variations introduced over the years, are new, fresh-ingredient Dole Whip® recipes that are all-natural interpretations of key lime pie, watermelon-pineapple Agua Fresca and the classic banana split sundae.

All 16 Dole Whip® treats featured on the company’s popular Dole Whip® Wonderland page are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and low-sodium, and seven are also low-fat. In keeping with the spirit of the original dessert, all are made with DOLE® Pineapples, DOLE® Bananas or both.

Bil Goldfield, Director of Corporate Communications, Dole Food Company

“Despite its global appeal and cult-like following, the Dole Whip® was developed by Dole in 1986 for a fairly straightforward reason: to encourage more theme park guests to experience – and love! – the juicy flavor of pineapples,” said Bil Goldfield, director of corporate communications for Dole Food Company, in the recent release.

“Certainly, no one could have predicted that more than four decades later this simple frozen treat would evolve into its own lifestyle and subbrand in itself supported by worldwide fan groups, dozens of fresh-ingredient recipe variations and its own line of merchandise.”

The three official new Dole Whip® treats debuting on Dole Whip Day on July 16 include the following:

  • Key Lime Pie Dole Whip® (Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Low-Sodium, Low-Fat): A healthier take on the iconic Florida keys dessert made with DOLE® Bananas, Limes and unsweetened coconut milk.
  • Watermelon-Pineapple Agua Fresca Dole Whip® (Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Low-Sodium, Low-Fat): A thirst-quenching blend of DOLE® Pineapple, Limes, watermelon and fresh mint inspired by the fresh fruit drink in Mexico and Latin America.
  • Dole Whip® Sundae (Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Low-Sodium, Low-Fat): The original DIY Dole Whip® is the foundation for the ultimate banana split sundae made with DOLE® Bananas, Blueberries, Raspberries, Greek yogurt and toasted coconut granola.

Goldfield also confirmed that two of the new Whips – the Agua Fresca and Sundae – commemorate Dole’s 125th Pineapple Crowning Anniversary in 2026, marking 125 years of growing and marketing its iconic pineapples to the world.

Leading new-recipe development at Dole Food Company is Melanie Marcus, MA, RD, manager of nutrition, wellness and communications, who based the new creations on popular produce, dessert and food trends plus Dole’s larger mission of encouraging more people to adopt a produce-rich diet.

“After years of campaigns and coaching, the fact is that most Americans still aren’t getting their daily recommended servings of fresh fruits and vegetables – so we see our expanding Dole Whip® lineup as a proven way to make healthier eating and snacking more delicious and fun,” she said. “When we can blend the global popularity of Dole Whip® with the latest flavor trends like key lime, Agua Fresca and banana split sundae, we know we can move the needle.”

Dole’s existing 12 Whips include Blue Hawaiian Dole Whip®, Creamy Lemon-Blueberry Swirl Dole Whip®, Frozen Mexican Hot Chocolate Dole Whip®, Golden Curry & Mango Dole Whip®, Healthy Halo-Halo Inspired Dole Whip®, Mint Green Dole Whip®, Sweet & Spicy Tamarindo Dole Whip®, Twisted Candy Cane Dole Whip®, Pumpkin Spice Sweet Potato Dole Whip®, Dole Berry Banana Fro-Whip®,,Dark Chocolate Dole Whip®, Classic Dole Whip® Popsicles and the original DIY Dole Whip®.
