Nogales, AZ

The Nogales border has recently experienced some much desired expansion. The Mariposa Cargo Facility opened Sunday, April 30,2012 with new lanes and a temporary truck-dock. In Nogales, Arizona, the Mariposa Land Port of Entry exists as one of the most busy ports of entry as well as the main port of entry for fresh produce entering into the U.S. from Mexico. It is also a primary distribution site for produce on the southern border.

For the Giumarra Companies' Nogales Division, the expansion not only allows more traffic for the operation, but more effective transportation as well.

Gil Munguia, Division Manager at The Giumarra Companies for the Nogales Operation, tells AndNowUKnow, "We are very pleased with the new addition of lanes to the Port, especially at this time of year when table grapes are coming in from Mexico and the weather is heating up." Mr. Munguia, continues, "As the weather warms it will be even more essential for the cold supply chain to remain intact, and it’s our hope the expansion will allow us the necessary transportation flow and efficiency to ensure it."

With the grape season beginning, the new passenger-vehicle and commercial primary lanes will allow for more traffic to funnel through the port. The Mariposa Expansion Project kicked off in 2010 and is scheduled for completion 2014, according to a press release. The new design will improve the overall inspection process for passengers and commercial travelers, alike.
