The video asks the questions, "What if we all improved one thing today to protect tomorrow?" It is a philosophy that motivates the company to become a more sustainable retailer. To celebrate Earth Day this past weekend Kroger invited the industry and its consumers to view its sustainability story through the perspective of its customers and associates, leaving the question of what we can do as instruments in the creation of tomorrow, according to a press release.

According to Kroger's sustainability reports the company has reduced its overall energy consumption by 30% since 2000. The goal of the program, using 2000 as a baseline year, is to reduce the stores' overall energy use by 35% by the year 2013. Eliminating waste is another key initiative to the company which is included in the video as well. The company has reduced landfill waste to zero at half of their manufacturing plants. The video includes these facts which are part of the four cornerstones of the Kroger Sustainability program- Environment, Food & Products, People, and Community - which works at "Improving today to protect tomorrow."

http://sustainability.kroger.com/
