Love Beets Launches Loving Your Heart-BEET Campaign for National Heart Health Month
- by Kayla Webb
BALA CYNWYD, PA - It’s February, which means we (Love Beets and I) are talking hearts all month long. And I’m not just referring to Valentine’s Day, but National Heart Health Month, too! In honor of this hearty month, I would like to remind everyone that Paris Hilton’s smash hit “Heartbeat” is available across most streaming services—no, just kidding! More importantly, to celebrate heart health and encourage retailers and consumers to celebrate, too, Love Beets is launching a “Love Your Heart-BEET” campaign in partnership with Kroger.
This month, Love Beets is helping to educate consumers on the key role beets play in a heart-healthy diet. As part of its Heart-BEET campaign, the company is implementing in-store marketing strategies like hosting demonstrations and distributing samples and recipe booklets featuring American Heart Association certified heart-healthy beet-inspired recipes in Kroger stores.
“We’re so excited because having these recipes certified by the American Heart Association only adds to the integrity of our campaign,” said Natasha Lichty, Love Beets’ Brand + Marketing Director. “Promoting and inspiring a healthy lifestyle is a key part of our mission at Love Beets, and we’ve made sure that these recipes are very approachable to show consumers that creating healthy meals doesn’t have to be complicated or too time-consuming.”
These recipe booklets (which are also available on Love Beets’ website) feature steps for delicious creations like beet-citrus smoothies, simple beet and feta salads, beet energy bites, beet hummus crudité platters, golden beet salads, and roasted cauliflower beet soups. According to a press release, all of the recipes have ten or less simple and affordable ingredients, making them easy for consumers to replicate at home.
The heart-happy campaign also includes social media posts, posted in tandem with Registered Dieticians. Both Love Beets and its Dietician partners will post heart-healthy recipes and tips explaining why beets are one of the best heart-healthy foods to consume.
“Beets are considered a good source of fiber, with nearly 4 grams per cup. Fiber helps to lower cholesterol to protect the heart,” said Sammi Haber Brondo, MS, RD, CDN. “One cup of beets also contains about 10 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for potassium. Potassium flushes out sodium in the body to lower blood pressure and helps reduce the risk of heart disease.”
In a press release, Haber also explained that beets contain helpful compounds such as antioxidants and phytochemicals, as well as carotenoids and flavonoids, which help to protect cells against damage from free radicals, reduce inflammation, and decrease risk of heart disease.
