<p>Delhaize Group has one of its own passing the torch. The company has announced that Mats Jansson will be assuming the role of Chairman of the Board when the current Chairman, Georges Jacobs, retires, on May 24, 2012. Mr. Jansson brings a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to his new role. He began his career with ICA, making his way up the company ladder for a period of more than 20 years. He has held numerous reputable positions in the years in between and currently serves as an independent member of Danske Bank.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Mats Jansson, took a moment to reflect on his new appointment and stated, “I am honored to become the Chairman of the Board of Delhaize Group, a position so successfully held by Georges Jacobs. Since joining the Board in May of 2011, I have had the opportunity to meet a number of dedicated and passionate people. I am convinced of the company's strengths and look forward to working with a great team as we position Delhaize for a successful future."<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The Group has also appointed of Ms. Shari Ballard to its board of directors. Ms. Ballard, President, International and Enterprise Executive Vice President, Best Buy, will assume her position with the board in May 2012.
