The retailer has been utilizing the NuVal system along with the YouTube Platform to help consumers make better choices when it comes to their grocery needs. The scoring system addresses everything from fresh produce offerings to center store goods.

The NuVal System scores food on a scale of 1-100 and is labeled on the shelf tag. The higher the NuVal Score, the better the nutrition, according to promotional materials. Consumers can compare overall nutrition the same way that they compare price.

In a recent YouTube video, Maribel Alchin, MBA RD LDN, a Healthy Living Advisor for Illinois and Indiana Meijer stores, addresses the company’s NuVal presentations and how consumers can use the scoring system to their greatest advantage. When it comes to produce, organic, versus non-organic, etc., Ms. Alchin states, “Compare the scores. Just because it says that it is organic that does not necessarily mean that it gets a higher score. But in general, in the produce section, you will find scores anywhere between 80 and 100. It is still an excellent option to get your anti-oxidants and servings of fruits and vegetables everyday.” For more information, please visit the link below.

Meijer
