In Memoriam Dave Nichol

<p>Dave Nichol, the memorable pitchman and marketing expert for Loblaw, has passed away at the age of 73.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “We are deeply saddened and our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave’s family,” said Galen G. Weston, Executive Chairman, Loblaw Companies Limited. “Dave’s passion for food and his vision helped to transform the way Canadians eat, and he has left a tremendous legacy that endures in the company today. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to work with him and benefit from his guidance and friendship.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Dave, who joined Loblaw in 1972, was recognized inside and outside of the company for his creativity and skill. His most significant contribution to the company was establishing the iconic <I>President’s Choice®</i> and <I>no name®</i> brands. <I>President’s Choice®</i> has become the number one consumer brand in Canada and many of the products he introduced are still on the market today, including the <I>President’s Choice® The Decadent® Chocolate Chip Cookie</i>, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The first <I>Insider’s Report®</i>, which launched in November 1983, reflected Dave’s belief that success required not just great products, but great stories as well.
