<p>The Edinburg Citrus Association, Edinburg, Texas, has sadly announced the passing of Ruben Shives, Sales Manager on November 20, 2012 at the age of 55.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/Ruben001Crop.jpg" alt="11/28/12 images " />Ruben began his sales career with ECA in 1995. He began on a sales desk describing himself as a "workhorse," just wanting to be on the phone and sell. Over the years, Ruben became a driving force in the company, taking on the Sales Manager's role. Absolutely, "Rube" was respected for his strong work ethic, fairness and integrity. At the same time, those that knew Ruben well also knew that he was the same both in and out of the sales office, full of life. Ruben was known for his bigger than life personality and an infectious laugh that filled the room. He would greet his customers with a "Hey, pappy" and while conducting business would still take the time to be involved with them personally. His customers became his friends. After work was finished, very likely there would be a discussion about fantasy football, baseball or family.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Ruben loved the produce industry and he loved Edinburg Citrus. "He shared with me that ECA was where he really felt at home and like a home, we were all a family," stated Paula Fouchek, Marketing Director of ECA. In addition to his tenure at ECA, Ruben’s produce career also included working with the USDA as an inspector in the Rio Grande Valley and as a buyer and inspector for Safeway in various locations across the country.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Ruben is survived by his wife Belen, son Ruben, daughter Melissa, five grandchildren and large extended family. A memorial service was held on November 24, 2012 to celebrate his life.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
