SYRACUSE, UT - February is all about the heart, and I’m not just talking about Valentine’s Day. Nay, nay, I am speaking of American Heart Month or “Heart Health” month, which is dedicated to inspiring consumers to enjoy fresh produce to boost cardiovascular health. To help in this mission, Onions 52 has enlisted the help of registered dietitian Laura Ashley Johnson, RDN, CDE.
“Onions are full of health benefits, and produce marketers have the unique opportunity to help educate consumers on the many advantages of increasing consumption of allium vegetables during American Heart Month,” said Falon Brawley, Director of Marketing at Onions 52.
By partnering with Johnson, who is not only a registered dietitian but also a certified diabetes educator, Onions 52 is promoting easy, creative ways to increase onion consumption. Starting February 21, the company will begin sharing onion-centric recipes on its website and social media channels.
According to a release, several studies and research from the National Onion Association (NOA) have shown that eating onions could improve cardiovascular health.
“Not only are onions a versatile and delicious ingredient in many recipes, but research has shown they're also rich in nutrients that can benefit the body in so many amazing ways,” noted Laura Ashley Johnson, RDN, CDE.
Onions contain key vitamins and minerals, quercetin, and other antioxidants that may offer unique heart health benefits, Brawley explained.
With onions’ strong flavor and added health benefits, marketing the category this month should be a breeze for retailers.
