DENVER, CO - As pandemic restrictions are being relaxed worldwide, Potatoes USA has revealed that demand for United States potato exports is showing signs of recovery. From July 2021–March 2022, the organization is reporting that U.S. potato and potato product exports have risen from the same period last year.
During the first three quarters of the marketing year, U.S. frozen potato exports rose by almost 3 percent in volume and 6 percent in value, a release explained. These increases point to recovery for the category in the international foodservice sector.
U.S. fresh potato exports, including table-stock and chipping potatoes for processing, also were up during the same July 2021–March 2022 period, seeing a nearly 10 percent increase in volume. Similarly, value rose by 15 percent due to higher prices and inflation impacting countries around the globe. Fresh exports were up in many major markets, including Canada, where fresh shipments were up 10 percent, and Mexico, where fresh shipments increased by 13 percent.
