Livermore, CA

As the industry gets into summer, The Produce Exchange is increasing production of its popular Tesoro cooking tomatoes. This new variety was launched into commercial production last October after six years of development. Tesoro is the first entrant in the new and emerging cooking segment of the tomato category where its primary attributes are that it has no gel, also called full flesh, it has a rich full bodied tomato flavor and functionally offers a different result when used in a recipe. Production will increase every month between now and the first of the year, Martin Mazzanti, Founder of The Produce Exchange tells AndNowUKnow.

The grower, distributor and marketer of the full tomato and dry vegegetable categories is targeting both retail and food service with Tesoro, throughout the U.S. and Canada. Mr Mazzanti tells AndNowUKnow, "we thought this variety was interesting when we found it in Almeria, Spain in 2006. In 2007 when we grew our first trial we fell in love with using these tomatoes in our own kitchens. From that point on, all of our efforts to make this variety available nationally became a labor of love".

The Produce Exchange
