SACRAMENTO, CA - After more than two weeks of dry conditions over Northern California, it seems the gates have opened for the return of rain.
November kicked off with several storm systems bringing about double the amount of rain we typically see for November in Sacramento and many cities north of I-80. The first storm system arrived Wednesday night, according to a press release from ABC10.
The band of precipitation will wrap back around the low pressure system, bringing more rain and snow to Northern California by yesterday afternoon and evening. This second band will be less impressive when it comes to rain totals, but it is expected to boost snow totals into Friday morning. As much as an initial 4-8" was expected Wednesday–Thursday.
A Winter Weather Advisory was in place from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday. Wind gusts were expected to reach as high as 40 mph causing blowing snow and low visibility. Snow was likely to be around 5,000 feet and higher with snowfall totals between 6-12 inches. Travel was impacted and we could even see delays or road closures depending on traffic conditions.
Rain totals are expected to range from .25-1" of rain through the valley and foothills.
A Weather Impact Alert Day was issued for the valley and Sierra Thursday, but also expected Saturday. Saturday is expected to see the most impactful storm. More rain and snow early Saturday morning through Saturday night will add to those Thursday storm totals.
Rainfall could see an additional quarter to an inch of rain. Snowfall is expected to see an additional 8-15" of snow putting totals closer to 1-2 feet for the two storms.
We’ll see a quick break between storms Sunday before the next system arrives Monday.
