YOKOHAMA, JAPAN - Sakata Seed Corporation is excited to announce that Lisianthus breeding has been taken to a new stage.

The company’s revolutionary new Lisianthus varieties, which have strong flower durability, now do not produce pollen, a first in the world according to the company.

Two major benefits were listed to pollen-free Lisianthus cut flower:

  • Shaking will not cause pollen to scatter during transportation, thus the petals stay clean
  • Absence of pollination can mean a longer vase life for the flowers.

With advantages to longer transportation periods, especially as the pollen-free flower type is common among cut flowers but not among the Lisianthus variety, the flowers can provide an advantage over current market assortment, Sakata said.

Seed sales for Sakata’s Single-flowered White, Single-flowered Blue Picotee, and Single-flowered Pink Picotee are scheduled for test marketing in Japan is the fall of 2017, with research of a Double-flowered type underway

With promises to announce release of the Double-flowered type in the future, and more in store for Sakata Seed America, AndNowUKnow will keep an ear to the ground for all the latest in produce and floral.
