TEXAS - Winter is revisiting Texas following recent heat, experts say, with areas to see rain, ice, even snow.

The Dallas area, which saw temperatures in the upper 80s as recently as this last Saturday, is reported to drop to just over 30 degrees today.

“As hard as it is to believe, there will be some snow and wintry mix with this storm just days after areas reached or exceeded 90 [Fahrenheit],” said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski, according to a recent report, who added that the heat should mean that not much of the snow will stick.

“With the recent heat, accumulations are most likely on grassy and non-paved surfaces. Parts of western Texas will get a slushy inch or two of snow.”

The precipitation is expanding eastward from New Mexico into the Texas Panhandle beginning at the start of this week, so travelers should be wary of ice on bridges and overpasses where icy, as well as portions of interstates 27 and 40.

Spots expected to be affected include from Amarillo to Lubbock, with soaking rain threatening localized flooding to San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston.

The rain is expected to reach San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston today and continue through tonight, according to the report. Happily, it’s expected that, given the dry start to the month, much of the rain will be beneficial to the affected areas. One to three inches of rain is expected to fall in the area.

Soaking rain and thunderstorms, as well as chances for localized flooding, are in store farther south and east where the weather will not build to such wintry levels.

Interstates 10, 20, 35, and 45 are all expected to be slower than normal due to reduced visibility, so be on the lookout.
