<p>Demand is spiking for California lettuce as the backlash of unfavorable weather conditions reverberates across many growing regions of the nation.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Heat in the Ohio Valley, New Jersey, and the southeast and rains in Eastern Canada have hit lettuce producers hard and have left retailers scrambling to stock their shelves with lettuce, which is consumed more heavily during the summer.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">They’re looking to California to fill the substantial void and are pushing prices high for the state’s lettuce. Currently, prices are in the upper teens for 24 ct wraps, and are expected to reach as much as $20, according to a Salinas grower who asked not to be named.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Prices are expected to remain high for two to three more weeks at which point growers in affected areas will have had time to recuperate and demand should flatten out.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Stay tuned to AndNowUKnow for updates on the situation. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
