USDA Cites Andrew Depoala Mushrooms and Castillo Produce for PACA Violations

<p> Two PACA violators in New York and Florida have been restricted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture from operating in the produce industry.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Andrew Depoala Mushrooms Inc., operating out of Glascony, N.Y., was barred for failing to pay a $188,263 award in favor of a Pennsylvania seller. Gabriel Depoala was listed as the sole officer.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Luis Castillo, doing business as Castillo Produce, operating out of Plant City, FL, was barred for failing to pay a $14,873 award in favor of a Florida seller. Luis Castillo was listed as the sole proprietor of the business.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> In the past three years, the USDA resolved approximately 5,000 claims filed under PACA involving almost $96 million, according to a press release. Individuals, including sole proprietors, partners, members, managers, officers, directors, or major stockholders may not be employed by or affiliated with any PACA licensee without the approval of the USDA.
