USDA Restricts PACA Violators National Food Products and T J Produce from Operating in the Produce Industry

<p>The USDA has imposed sanctions on Laredo, Texas-based National Food Products Inc. and Joliet, Illinois-based T J Produce Inc. for failure to pay reparation awards issued under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>National Food Products has failed to pay a $9,854 award in favor of a Texas seller. As of the issuance date of the reparation order, Josefina J. Garcia was listed as the sole officer, director, and major stockholder, according to a press release.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>T J Produce has failed to pay a $37,068 award also in favor of a Texas seller. Thomas J. Hanyzewski and Jerome M. Lamm were listed as the officers, directors, and/or major stockholders of the business, as of the issuance date of the reparation order.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>PACA provides an administrative forum to handle disputes involving produce transactions; this may result in a reparation order being issued that requires damages to be paid by those not meeting their contractual obligations in buying and selling fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables.
